Old-fashioned role-playing games experience a renaissance on the World Wide Web. Twins Rena and Shugo are two middle school students who enter "The World" as level one game characters. When Shugo's character dies he is transported to another level where he is entrusted to bear the Twilight Bracelet by the mysterious Aura. Shugo must find out who Aura is and why she gave him this powerful weapon to protect his sister from the peculiar characters in "The World."

Once I picked up the manga I found a slickly produced story that was filled with references that will likely amuse anyone who has spent some time playing Japanese role playing games. Shugo and his twin sister Rena are the lucky winners of some limited edition avatars – the legendary Kite and Black Rose. Rena is excited about logging into The World and playing the RPG, but Shugo is reticent. He’s not all that interested in leveling up or fighting monsters despite the fact that Rena wishes he would learn to become a hero.

Despite the epic title, this series is surprisingly non-epic. There’s very little action and the majority of the book is spent on light adventures. The story starts off with a pair of siblings, Shugo and Rena, having won a contest that grants them limited edition avatars based upon two legendary players known as Kite and Black Rose.
