Kitchen Princess is an entertaining shoujo soap opera that centers on the connection between emotions and food. It doesn’t exactly break new ground, but the characters are likeable, and it’s fun to watch the heroine, Najika, rattle the pans as she solves everyone’s problems with food.

Najika just seems to have a way of attracting other girls’ animosity. When she’s glimpsed getting a little too cozy with Sora, Akane’s cronies decide that it’s time to do something about her. With a little help from her PTA director daddy, one of the girls persuades him to close Fujita Diner. Najika is devastated by the news. Cooking is her way to de-stress, and now her precious place of refuge is going to be permanently closed!

Najika finally learns the identity of her Flan Prince. And that’s not all the action that takes place in the fourth volume of Kitchen Princess by Natsumi Ando and Miyuki Kobayashi. Romance also starts to stir up the plot in a few different ways. Having returned to Seika Academy, Najika finds a bit a turmoil in her relationship with Daichi Kitazawa. Of course, all this hassle is over just a watch — right? It is until someone can admit true feelings.

This is the second to last volume of Kitchen Princess, and that makes me sad! It's such a sweet story. Although I must say this latest issue is much, much darker than the previous ones. Kitchen Princess is a sugary sweet manga, but it does have it's sad parts. But they are generally very quickly resolved with some friendship, kindness, and cooking!

Kitchen Princess (Del Rey) is shôjo romantic comedy so formulaic you can practically read it with your eyes closed. A spirited country girl enrolls in a big-city private school, finding snooty rivals and romantic possibilities among the student body. Potential suitors include feuding relatives who are united only in their fondness for our heroine.
