College freshman Suzuna is looking forward to making friends, joining a club, and hopefully getting a boyfriend! She develops an early crush on Fukami—charismatic tennis player and friend of her neighbor, Eichi. But her other new friend—the beautiful Hinako—has some interesting information regarding Eichi that’s going to force Suzuna to take a second look at the whole situation. She’s about to discover that love can come with some unexpected competition.

Venus in Love has all the trappings of a typical shoujo story, but the combination of characters and good humor ensure that I’ll be following this new series from CMX.

This volume is an uneven mix of episodic events that didn’t hold my attention, except when Suzuna and Eichi were predominately featured. I have felt this way with previous installments of Venus in Love, that some of the daily activities didn’t feel fresh and new, but instead ventured dangerously close to repetitive and uninspired. Something wonderfully endearing would usually happen in the next volume, so I am hoping that is the case with Volume 9. I still love the characters, but this volume jumped around too much to be truly satisfying.
