But instead, her ambitions land her in the clutches of a gang of unsavory pirates led by a devious magician. Her only hope is Natsu, a strange boy she happens to meet on her travels. Natsu’s not your typical hero-he gets motion sickness, eats like a pig, and his best friend is a talking cat. With friends like this, is Lucy better off with her enemies?

With its indestructible hero and eccentric supporting cast, Hiro Mashima's shonen manga series Fairy Tail won't win too many points for originality. However, it does manage to tell a fast-paced, rip-roaring tale that gives us a taste of the adventures to come. The art is crisp and clear and the characters' elastic, exaggerated expressions are hilarious.

Fairy Tail is your typical beat ‘em up shounen adventure yarn, filled with sinister villains, really bad puns, and an engaging trio of heroes. That said, I enjoyed the first two books in the series, but as I’ve stated before, I am a sucker for these kinds of stories. I find the somewhat simple formula of the good guys overcoming all obstacles to defeat the bad guys comforting, and wonder why it only seems to happens in books. Honest, hard-working people finishing first should be the rule rather than the exception, but that’s not the case in real life. *Sniff* I like the way it works out in manga better.

Fairy Tail is a new shounen manga series being written by Hiro Mashima after he finally ended his popular Jump manga “RAVE” in 2005. It is set in a steampunkish world of adventure, magic, mages and guilds, where mages are the main adventurers in this series.

The art and designs in new series Fairy Tail struck me as super-familiar as I was reading through the first volume, seeming quite similar to those of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. It wasn’t until I flipped back to the “about the creator” page in the back that I realized that the author Hiro Mashima as the person responsible for Rave Master, the extremely popular series that I couldn’t really get into, despite trying the first few volumes (and I liked the art and character designs a lot too).

Thumbing through the pages of Fairy Tail, a new manga series by Hiro Mashima, I prepared myself to loathe or at least barely tolerate its contents, as it seemed like just about every shonen manga cliche that’s come down the pike in the past few years — from a fantasy-based setting to a spiky hair protagonist to an abundance of cleavage — was crammed in for maximum sales potential. So the good news then is it’s actually a quite charming series, full of good fun and humor. It’s also an excellent example of how a good author can make even the most tired premise seem fresh and inventive.

Fairy Tail is another of those shonen adventure manga that focuses on the wacky adventures of a group that includes both humans and talking animals. This one focuses on a fantasy world where magic is fairly commonplace, with professional wizards belonging to guilds. Among the most notorious of these guilds is Fairy Tail, made up of powerful wizards who are a little…oh, let’s call it unconventional. They solve problems, but often leave a path of destruction in their wake

Volume seven of Fairy Tail is a lot of fun. The battle between Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord continues on, and not only are some nifty villains introduced on the Phantom Lord side, we also learn more about some members of Fairy Tail who’ve remained in the background thus far. True, a couple of the chapters could be summarized as “Mirajane and Elfman have angst,” but it’s about time some of these folks got some attention.

Fairy Tail is the name for a guild of bounty-hunting wizards. The guild headquarters has two stories to correspond with the guild’s two tiers. Only the most powerful wizards have access to the second floor and the bounties posted there. Natsu wants to prove he’s ready to move up to the second floor. He has his friend Happy, a talking cat who is also a wizard, sneak in and take one of the bounty sheets. It’s a call for help from the inhabitants of Galuna Island to remove the demon curse placed on them. Natsu then convinces/cons another first-floor wizard, Lucy, to join him and Happy to rescue the islanders.

I enjoy Fairy Tail. It has fun characters, good action sequences, and an intriguing backstory. This volume wraps up the Guild War arc we've had for a few books, and shows Lucy rejecting her father and siding with the Guild. This is probably the strongest scene in the volume, and gives Lucy a nice chance to shine.
