    VIZ Kids at Comic-Con: Mameshiba, Panda Man and Pokemon

    My first stop on Friday morning at San Diego Comic-Con was an invitation-only affair where the VIZ Media crew promised to announce some new titles for 2011. And sure enough, they did -- when I entered the room I was greeted by a bunch of giant Mameshiba plushes!  Mameshiba is the latest addition to the VIZ Kids imprint of kid-friendly comics. The first Mameshiba books are due to debut in Spring 2011.

    Thursday at Comic-Con: Gekiga for Grown-Ups and Best/Worst Manga

    Manga, Movies and Very Big Bags at Comic-Con - Preview Night

    When I arrived in San Diego on Wednesday morning, it was already becoming clear that this year's San Diego Comic-Con would be a major movie, games and TV-driven event, maybe even more so than previous years. Huge building-sized signs promoting upcoming movies were everywhere. The San Diego Hilton Bayside Hotel was covered with a giant multi-story poster for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World the new Edgar Wright (Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) film based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

    Shojo Manga Legend Moto Hagio To Appear at Comic-Con

    Udon Celebrates 10th Anniversary in Manga at Comic-Con

    Toronto, L.A. Comic Shops Celebrate With Scott Pilgrim Parties

    Comics Legend Stan Lee to Sign Ultimo Manga in LA, San Diego

    Now that the second and latest volume of Ultimo is hitting the stores, so will comics creator Stan Lee, as he'll be making the scene in Los Angeles and San Diego this month to promote it.  The co-creator of Ultimo (and numerous other comics including Spiderman, Iron Man and too many more to mention) will be signing copies of this Shonen Jump manga title at the Barnes and Noble at The Grove in L.A. on Friday, July 16 at 7:00 pm.

    It's the 234th birthday of the U.S.A. and here you are, celebrating Japanese pop culture in all its glory. America is a nation of movers and shakers, thinkers and dreamers. So how about fulfilling your dream of traveling to Japan - perhaps with Pop Japan Travel on one of their otaku-friendly tours? Perhaps you want to exercise your freedom of speech by learning the basics of blogging and podcasting. Or maybe, as you reflect on a weekend of fun, you may be asking yourself, "Do Anime Conventions Have a Future?" At the very least, you can do your part to keep the American economy going by making that last minute purchase in the Exhibit Hall.
